ABOUT
Kobi Cummings is a set designer and scenic painter currently based out of Orlando, Florida after accepting a Technical Direction Internship with Disney Parks Live Entertainment. Before taking this job Kobi graduated Summa Cum Laude on May 31st, 2019 with a BFA in Production Design and a concentration in Scenic Design and Art Direction.
As an avid reader from an early age, Kobi grew up entranced by the idea of fantastical worlds hidden within the pages of books. At the age of seven, these books became her canvases as she began to fill their pages with illustrations and paintings of the settings described. As Kobi got older these designs became larger and more intricate and she could never seem to find a canvas that was big enough until she painted her first scenic drop. Since that day Kobi has known that her true passions lie in set design and fabrication and she has dedicated her time to perfecting as many useful skills as possible.
With a drive to fabricate, Kobi began volunteering in SCAD’s Scene shop during her first quarter at SCAD and became familiar with carpentry, lighting, and scenic painting. After two years of volunteering, Kobi was hired on as the Scene Shop’s Scenic Charge Artist and entrusted to create paint samples and oversee all painting for a minimum of nine shows a year.
On top of this job and school, Kobi has also volunteered much of her time working on student and SCAD funded film sets, taking jobs from Set Dressing to Prop Fabrication to Production Designer. During her Senior Year, Kobi was chosen to become the Production Designer for Time, a SCAD funded visual effects film about time travel and SCAD's largest collaborative project to date. During this film Kobi has managed a seven person Art Department, designed 10 on location and 3 completely built sets, and collaborated with the Director and Construction Manager to achieve one unified design aesthetic.
