SCENIC PAINT - THE FOREIGNER
These images depict my work as the scenic charge artist for SCAD's Winter Mainstage 2018 Production of The Foreigner.by Larry Shue.
As the Scenic Charge Artist I worked closely with the Scenic Designer, Zeke Waters, to bring a warm and authentic feeling to the painted elements in the play. He specifically wanted the canoe to appear weathered and well used and I quickly began to create samples. For the exterior, I started with a blue green base coat, before wet blended various colors to create mud stains. I then used a rough sandpaper to create the scuffs along the base through hand sanding. The interior required a cream base coat with many washes of brown and red to accommodate for years of mud stains. My final step was to rub charcoal onto the bottom of a spare pare of shoes to create foot prints in front of the seats. I also create a 3 step process to stain the wood logs that extend throughout the set.
