Growing up in the mountains of Tennessee, I have always found myself drawn to the beauty of caves, which inspired me to pitch the idea of an underground resort with a cavernous interior. When creating this project I worked closely with the illustrator to design the icy interiors of the resort and assisted with illustration when needed. While working with the illustrator, we decided that most of the resort walls should be translucent so that light and projections can shine through them.

Knowing the importance of family memories, I also wanted to develop a place for families to end their night together under the northern lights, which lead to the creation of the Gemstone Suites. These deluxe rooms lie primarily underground, but each room also features a canopy hammock and glass top ceilings that lie at ground level.The placement of the canopy hammock creates illusion that guests are living within the northern lights, while experiencing the celestial spectacle in comfort. The glass top ceiling can also be darkened or cleared to reveal or shade the northern lights from view.  

 

I designed, 3d modeled, and rendered the Gemstone Suites using Vectorworks and edited the renderings in Photoshop.
